Info/Bio

The Swiss guitarist Luca Marty was born in Zurich in 1991. From an early age, he engaged with various plucked string instruments, including classical guitar, electric guitar, and lute. He received his first important musical impulses from Erwin Steiger in Zurich. After completing his pre-college studies at the Conservatory of Winterthur with Jury Clormann, Luca Marty began his studies in 2012 at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, majoring in guitar under Mats Scheidegger. During his Master’s studies, he also pursued a minor in composition with Dieter Ammann.

In 2018, Luca Marty participated in the Darmstadt Summer Course for New Music, where he further specialized in contemporary music for electric guitar with Yaron Deutsch. In the same year, he began the program “Interpretation in Contemporary Music Performance” at the Lucerne School of Music and has since focused primarily on the performance and research of contemporary solo repertoire for guitar.

In 2019, he made his debut as a soloist at the Lucerne Festival as part of a portrait concert dedicated to Thomas Kessler. In addition to performing contemporary music, Luca Marty is deeply committed to its mediation and regularly engages in concert introductions and lecture-recitals.

Luca Marty has collaborated with composers such as Dieter Ammann, Pierluigi Billone, Lukas Stamm, Thomas Kessler, Jonas Arnet, Daniel Weissberg, Simon Steen-Andersen, Yulan Yu, Ko Sahara, and Peter Ablinger, and has performed numerous premieres across Europe and Japan.

Alongside his work as an interpreter of contemporary music, Luca Marty also explores historical performance practice on period instruments, driven by an ongoing search for authenticity.

Since 2023, Luca Marty has been pursuing a PhD at the University of Bern in cooperation with the Bern University of the Arts as part of the SINTA program and the GSAH. In 2025, he co-founded the “Kollektiv für aktuelle Musik Zürich” together with Lukas Stamm.
